CEBU CITY – A total of 50 entrepreneurs in Central Visayas are expected to learn strategies in growing their businesses as the Department of Trade and Industry in the region (DTI-7) launched on Monday the third batch of its online Kapatid Mentor Me (KMME) Program.

DTI-7, in partnership with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Go Negosyo and Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, introduced 50 KMME online mentees from the provinces of Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental and Siquijor during a launch on Monday as they start their journey on improving their businesses.

These entrepreneurs have qualified for the multi-sectoral mentoring program under the DTI-led project.

The eligible mentees are owners, co-owners and managers from the priority industries in Central Visayas engaged in food and agriculture, services and manufacturing who are registered and have operated for more than one year.

“I joined this program primarily to improve my business after loss on sales during the pandemic,” San Remigio Native Basket Industry proprietor Rufino Felicano said during the online launch.

He was introduced to the KMME after availing the DTI and Cebu provincial government project dubbed as “Sugbo Negosyo” where he was aided with business development seminars and granted a capital worth PHP20,000.

This online program aims to produce confident entrepreneurs with the right mindset and basic management skills which will enable them to sustain their enterprises amid the challenges brought about by the pandemic and new normal conditions.

“We hope that this new platform for coaching and mentoring will help the mentees and their businesses become the best it can be. We have chosen good mentors and the right courses that will help them jumpstart their business,” DTI-7 regional director Ma. Elena Arbon said during the virtual launch.

DTI Undersecretary Blesila Lantayona of the Regional Operations Group, also encouraged the mentees to be committed and not miss a session on this free and government-funded initiative.

Felicano, together with the other entrepreneurs from the region, will undergo the online mentoring from April 7 to June 4, 2021.

The modules will cover entrepreneurial mindset and values formation, marketing, product development and innovation, market growth and expansion, business model canvas, operations management, human resource and organization management, supply and value chain, entrepreneurial accounting and financial management, taxation, business laws, tapping government programs and services to grow one’s business and business improvement plan presentation.

“I hope that after this program, I will be able to even promote our local handicrafts, increase sales and work with bigger clients,” Felicano said. (PNA)
