Cops destroy P21.9-M illegal drugs in CAR

CAMP DANGWA, LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Policemen in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) have seized and destroyed some PHP21.97 million worth of illegal drugs as well as the arrest of 24 persons engaged in the illegal trade in March this year.

Capt. Marnie Abellanida, information officer of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PROCor), on Thursday said some PHP20.35 million worth of marijuana were discovered and destroyed by policemen in Benguet while PHP1.48 million worth of the illegal plants were uprooted and burned in Kalinga.

Abellanida also said PHP141,888 worth of shabu were confiscated in buy-bust operations by different operating units in the region.

He said PROCor cops conducted a total of 17 marijuana eradication operations which led to the destruction of 92,980 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants, 3,000 marijuana seedlings, and 26 kilograms of marijuana stalks.

There were also a total of 21 buy-bust operations conducted that led to the arrest of 24 drug personalities, nine of whom are listed as High-Value Individuals (HVI) and 15 are listed as Street Level Individuals (SLI).

The arrested suspects were charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

"In the course of the operations, 20.87 grams of shabu amounting to PHP141, 888 were (also) confiscated from the arrested suspects," Abellanida said.

The police officer said marijuana eradication operations are continuing activities as part of the supply reduction efforts of the Cordillera police. (PNA
