MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The Ilocos Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) has sent 102 personnel to Pangasinan to augment manpower at the province’s border checkpoints.

In an interview on Thursday, Maj. Arturo Melchor II said the additional personnel aims to strengthen the implementation of travel restrictions and health protocols at the border control points of the province.

Melchor said there are 20 border checkpoints situated in different parts of Pangasinan.

“Each checkpoint has 17 personnel and this will be added with the arrival of the augmentation from the RMFB,” he said.

Aside from the major control points, the Pangasinan police, together with local government units, barangay officials, and other force multipliers, has set up checkpoints in the different possible entry points to the province to prevent illegal entry, he added.

Pangasinan has been placed under modified general community quarantine until April 30.

However, Governor Amado Espino III issued travel restrictions to and from the National Capital Region (NCR) and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal to prevent the possible spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 into the province.

The restriction covers non-essential travels of Pangasinenses to the NCR Plus Bubble areas, as well as the entry of persons from these areas to Pangasinan.

Melchor further said the RMFB has also sent augmentation personnel to three other provinces in the Ilocos region – La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte. (PNA)
