LEGAZPI CITY – Six health workers from different hospitals in Bicol volunteered to go to National Capital Region (NCR) to help in the response to the increasing cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) in the region said on Thursday.

In a statement, the agency said the five nurses and a doctor will be assigned at Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital (DJNRMH) in Caloocan City.

"The health workers who volunteered were from three hospital facilities in the region, three from Bicol Medical Center (BMC) Naga, Camarines Sur, one from Bicol Region General Hospital and Geriatric Medical Center (BRGHGMC) Camarines Sur, and two from Bicol Regional Teaching and Training Hospital (BRTTH) Legazpi, Albay," the statement added.

The volunteer health workers will get additional benefits from the DOH such as per diem allowance, free transportation, food, and boarding. They will stay at DJNRMH for a month or more depending on the coronavirus situation in the area.

Upon their return to the region, they will undergo a reverse transcription- polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

The volunteers were deployed in three batches. Three healthcare workers from BMC and BRGHGMC traveled to the NCR on March 30; two from BRTTH left on April 3, 2021, and the last one from BMC left for Metro Manila last April 9. (PNA)
