MANILA – An enlisted personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has been relieved from his post and is being investigated following his alleged involvement in an investment scam.

In a statement on Thursday, the PCG said it is currently investigating Seaman 2nd Class Jurin Demsio and his partner who allegedly instigated the “easy money machination” among members of the PCG Task Force Bayanihan Returning Overseas Filipinos.

“PCG Commandant, Admiral George V. Ursabia Jr. has ordered Coast Guard Inspector General, Rear Admiral Christopher T. Villacorte to expedite the investigation process and ensure perpetrator/s will suffer the consequences,” the PCG said.

PCG spokesperson Commodore Armando Balilo said the investigation team has so far collected testimonies from six complainants as “major pieces of evidence” in identifying his violations.

He called on all PCG officers and personnel to exercise “prudence and integrity in all of their actions” and to shun pyramiding schemes and other illegal ventures.

“[We] need the cooperation of our people to shun pyramiding schemes and other illegal ventures, not only to protect themselves but more importantly, to preserve the public image of the humanitarian armed service they are part of,” Balilo said.

In 2019, President Rodrigo Duterte denounced pyramid schemes and ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to direct its attention to groups such as the now-defunct Kapa Community Ministry International Inc. (PNA)
