MANILA – All land and sea-going vessels — including fishing vessels — headed to the Visayas and Mindanao via Matnog Port and all other ports in Bicol Region are suspended starting Friday due to the imminent threat of Typhoon Bising (international name Surigae).
In an advisory Friday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the suspension is effective at noon and was made on the request of the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol Region and was approved by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Emergency Operations Center (NDRRMC-EOC).
“The DOTr advises trucking/logistics companies and buses not to proceed or postpone their planned trips in order to avoid long queues at Matnog, Sorsogon, to Daraga, Albay,” the DOTr said.
To ensure the travel suspension is followed, it ordered the immediate enforcement of the policy to its attached agencies in the maritime and road sectors—the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
'Bising' has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility and intensified into a typhoon from a severe tropical storm, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said.
In the next 24 hours, the weather bureau said 'Bising' will bring rough to very rough seas at 2.8 to 4.8 meters over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and Mindanao. (PNA)
