MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) still has PHP1.5 billion in standby funds to assist local government units (LGUs) affected by Typhoon Bising (Surigae).

DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Bureau said more than PHP517 million are available in the Quick Response Fund of its central office.

A total of 355,672 family food packs are also available to augment the stocks of LGUs where the weather disturbance will pass, the DSWD said.

It also assured that the Quick Response Teams are on standby and ready to provide technical assistance, if needed, following the new normal protocols of the agency amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

DSWD, as the lead agency in the Food and Non-Food Item Cluster, Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster, and the Internally Displaced Persons Protection Cluster of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said it will continue to ensure the efficient and well-coordinated delivery of social protection services for typhoon-affected areas.

As of 4 p.m., state weather bureau PAGASA spotted the eye of Typhoon Bising some 500 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon. (PNA)
