TACLOBAN CITY – The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) on Friday confirmed at least two people have died and three were injured when Typhoon Bising struck Eastern Visayas early this week.
In a text message, RDRRMC chairman Lord Byron Torrecarion said the body of Louie Din, 40, from Dao village, San Isidro, Northern Samarwho was earlier reported as missing, was recovered by local authorities on Thursday.
He went missing on April 16 when he and three other companions ventured into the sea to pick animals from a nearby islet.
His companions were rescued on April 18 after their small boat capsized due to rough seas.
Earlier, RDRRMC reported that Alberto Wales, 79, of San Isidro village, St. Bernard, Southern Leyte died when hit by an uprooted coconut tree on April 18. He was declared dead on arrival at the Anahawan District Hospital on the same day.
The council also identified three typhoon-related injuries - Romeo Ang, Jr, 30, of San Julian, Eastern Samar who suffered lacerated wounds on April 19; Federico Macadamia, 40, of Guiuan, Eastern Samar; and Noel Sabarillo, 23, also of Guiuan town, who both suffered puncture wounds.
Typhoon Bising has affected several communities in Eastern Visayas on Sunday and Monday, placing the entire Samar Island and Biliran province under storm warning signal no. 2 while Leyte and Southern Leyte provinces under signal no. 1.
At least 12,259 people were evacuated in Northern Samar while 6,314 individuals in Eastern Samar moved to safer grounds as the typhoon dumped heavy rains, inundating 66 low-lying communities in the two provinces. (PNA)
