PH records 22.8K Covid-19 recoveries

MANILA – Some 22,877 people have survived from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), raising the overall recoveries in the Philippines to 883,221, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.

In its latest case bulletin, the agency also logged 9,661 new infections, bringing to 89,485 the total active cases. The death toll, on the other hand, rose to 16,674 after it recorded 145 new fatalities caused by Covid-19.

Overall, the country has a total of 989,380 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, nine percent of which are active cases, 89.3 percent are recoveries, while 1.69 percent are deaths.

Among those undergoing treatment, 95.9 percent have mild symptoms, 1.4 percent are asymptomatic, 0.8 percent are critical, 1.1 percent are severe, and 0.7 percent are moderate.

Of the 38,640 tests conducted on April 23, the DOH said at least 16.3 percent or 6,298 turned out positive on April 24.

Nationwide, occupied is 63 percent of the total 1,900 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 48 percent of 13,600 isolation beds, and 53 percent of the 6,000 ward beds dedicated for Covid-19 patients.

In Metro Manila, 71 percent of the 700 ICU beds, 59 percent of the 3,800 isolation beds, and 66 percent of the 2,200 ward beds are also in use.

Meanwhile, about 46 percent of the total 2,000 ventilators available for Covid-19 cases across the country are being utilized. (PNA
