MANILA – The Pasay City government plans to inoculate 14,000 weekly once it has a steady supply of Covid-19 vaccines.

Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said in a text message on Tuesday it will be their contribution to the national government program to vaccinate some 70 million this year to achieve herd immunity.

We would like to help in the vaccination campaign of our government to meet its target vaccinees of up to 70 million to achieve herd immunity and so that we could get back to our normal living condition),” she said.

Rubiano said the city government’s partnership with SM Mall of Asia to put up the country's biggest vaccination site, eyed to open by the second week of May, will help the national government achieve its goal.

This giga vaccination center could vaccinate around 1,600 to 2,000 individuals daily, so I can assure you that it would be a huge help to the national government to fast-track the vaccination of the majority of our population),” she added.

The city government is training healthcare workers and other essential staff who will be manning the giga vaccination hub, including real-time simulations and accreditation method.

All Filipinos, regardless of places of residence, will be accommodated.

The city government will also offer free shuttle services to fetch vaccinees going to the vaccination center.

Pasay is down to 299 active Covid-19 cases as of Monday.

The city is administering second doses of the Sinovac jabs on Tuesday and Wednesday for healthcare workers and those with comorbidities aged 18 to 59 years. (PNA)
