CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The local government announced Friday it plans to enlist volunteer medical professionals to assist its vaccination program.

As the vaccination for senior citizens started to roll out, Mayor Oscar Moreno said the city could use the expertise of midwives, nurses, and doctors to augment the current healthcare workforce.

“Those who have the talent and skills, please help. Importante kaayo ang bayanihan spirit,” Moreno appealed, citing that the vaccination program "must be pursued vigorously, with no letup".

City Information Officer Maricel Rivera said interested volunteers may coordinate with the City Health Office or with her office.

Although the mayor did not specify the number of required volunteers, Rivera said they are hoping many would enlist as volunteers.

More vaccines

Meanwhile, Moreno reiterated the local government's commitment to vaccinate 1,000-1,500 residents daily in a letter to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, Jr.

"Cagayan de Oro City would like to manifest its commitment to vaccinate 1,000-1,500 persons per day. To date, the city has 18 DOH (Department of Health) approved vaccination sites composed of 15 public schools, the city-owned JR Borja General Hospital, the City Health Office, and SM Downtown Premiere mall," reads Moreno's one-page letter to Galvez.

Moreno said the city also has 70 vaccination teams poised to undertake vaccinations once vaccines are available.

For Priority A2 group of seniors, the city has 84,000 in its master list, 53,000 of whom are in their database of validated seniors who are a text message away based on the local government's data.
