BACOLOD CITY – A total of 23,500 vials of the Sinovac-manufactured CoronaVac vaccines arrived at the Bacolod-Silay Aiport on Friday, representing the third batch of the China-made vaccines to arrive in Negros Occidental and this capital city this month.
The supply, dispatched by the national government through the Department of Health, consisted of 16,000 doses for Negros Occidental and 7,500 doses for Bacolod City.
Each vial of CoronaVac is equivalent to one dose.
Provincial health officer, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, said the vaccines received by the province would be dispatched to various local government units.
“The 16,000 doses that arrived will be divided into two. That means 8,000 clients more will be target for vaccination. The other 8,000 will be kept for the second dose,” Tumimbang said.
The 7,500 doses received by this city were stored in the cold room of the City Health Office.
On April 12, Negros Occidental received 11,400 vials of CoronaVac while Bacolod was given 3,000 vials as part of the second delivery this month.
Both the province and the city also received 7,200 vials, of which 5,200 vials went to Negros Occidental while 2,000 vials were sent to Bacolod on April 6.
Earlier this month, both Bacolod and Negros Occidental agreed to synchronize their operations to contain the transmission of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) through the conduct of regular coordination meetings.
The city and the province agreed to share their respective daily Covid-19 situationers, including the number of active cases, available quarantine and step-down facilities, data on patient extraction, and available hospital beds.
Bacolod is endorsing the use of "StaySafe" as one of the requirements for inbound travelers, aside from its own BaCTraC online contact tracing system.
The provincial government is also campaigning for the use of StaySafe, the country’s official platform for health condition reporting, contact tracing, social distancing systems, and border controls. (PNA)
