MANILA – Catholic bishops assured Filipino workers in the country and overseas of their prayers as the country commemorates Labor Day on Saturday, which coincides with the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker.

Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles also acknowledged the hard work and sacrifices of every worker.

“Giving St. Joseph as the patron saint for workers and of laborers is a sign that the heart and mind of the church is with you; please know that you are prayed for, you are remembered and we are mindful of the great difficulties that many of you working and laboring for many kinds of services,” he said in an interview over Church-run Radio Veritas on Friday.

He also hoped that Filipino workers will be able to stand firm with hope and commitment in these difficult times through the grace of God.

On the other hand, Bataan Bishop Ruperto Santos lauded the Filipino workers especially those overseas for showing their “dedication and determination to make their work done”.

“We, at CBCP-ECMI (Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People) prayerfully greet and wish our laborers especially our migrants and seafarers whose works manifest their expertise and excellence,” he said.

“Amidst separation from our country and amidst this troubling and trying time of Covid-19 pandemic they continue effectively and efficiently in their workplaces. We appreciate and grateful for their resiliency, courage, and strength to labor harder and honestly for our country and for their family,” added the vice president of the Commission.

Santos also asked the diocesan desk migrant ministries and chaplaincies to pray and offer Holy Masses for the workers, “invoking Saint Joseph to keep them safe, strong and successful in their line of works”. (PNA)
