ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Health in Region 9 (DOH-9) will send another batch of health personnel to augment the medical front-liners addressing the surge of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus.

Dr. Joshua Brillantes, DOH-9 director, said in a statement Tuesday that 11 nurses comprising the latest batch of volunteers are from Zamboanga del Sur,  Zamboanga Sibugay, and Zamboanga del Norte.

Brillantes said the nurses are scheduled to undergo orientation and Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests from May 6 to 8 and will travel to Manila on May 9.

“They shall be formally deployed to Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Rizal Ave., Sta. Cruz, Manila on May 10, 2021,” the DOH Zamboanga Peninsula Center for Health and Development said Tuesday on its Facebook Page.

DOH-9 has sent the first batch of 16 health front-liners consisting of nurses and medical technologists to NCR on April 11 to assist the Covid-19 response in the area.

Brillantes said earlier they are recruiting for volunteers to the NCR “since they are asking for help as the medical workers there are already exhausted”.

The DOH central office recorded 5,683 additional cases of Covid-19 with 9,028 recoveries and 97 deaths as of 4 p.m. Tuesday. (PNA)
