COTABATO CITY – The North Cotabato Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) has implemented a focused containment in one of the villages of President Roxas town after 50 residents tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Dr. Eva Rabaya, provincial health chief and head of IPHO-North Cotabato, reported Wednesday to the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force that Barangay Idaoman has been placed under focused containment after a resident was believed to have brought the virus in the area after attending a wake in a nearby village recently.

“The man started experiencing high fever and loss of taste. When swabbed, he turned out to be positive of the virus,” Rabaya said in the report.

Other villagers also started experiencing mild fever symptoms, prompting health officials to conduct antigen tests and confirmatory swab tests.

“We have swabbed 93 individuals and 50 of them turned out positive to the virus,” Rabaya said.

President Roxas Mayor Jonathan Mahimpit said that if needed, a lockdown would be imposed on at least three sub-districts (purok) of the village.

Municipal health chief Dr. Dominic Laus said contact tracing is ongoing on other people who may have close contact with those who tested positive for Covid-19.

Mahimpit assured the town government is in control of the situation. (PNA)
