NAP, PCOO to roll out electronic records management policy

MANILA – In partnership with the Freedom of Information-Project Management Office under Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) gears up to conduct a series of Electronic Records Management Policy (ERMP) rollout starting Wednesday via Zoom platform.

Representatives from the national and local government agencies are invited to participate in the event.

As mandated under Republic Act 9740, the NAP established policies and guidelines for electronic records management for all government agencies.

The ERMP aims to set the standards in the management and preservation of electronic records to establish a culture of efficiency as well as to provide easy access to credible and accurate information.

The policy also aims to guide the government sector in the shift from traditional paper records management to an electronic regime with a proper backup system in place that can be considered a counter disaster measure in case of disaster and/or calamities.

Aside from following the instructions of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to take advantage of the advances in technology for the improvement of the delivery of services to the public, the ERMP intends to complement the existing legislation and issuances including Executive Order No. 2, series of 2016 or the Freedom of Information (FOI) Program in the Executive branch.

The ERMP covers all branches of the government, including but not limited to departments, corporations, commissions, local government units, state/local colleges and universities, water districts, Philippine Embassies, Consulate General, other Philippine Offices abroad, as well as agencies, entities, and instrumentalities.

A copy of the policy shall be uploaded to the Official Gazette website this May 2021. (PR)
