Magnitude 5.1 quake jolts Davao del Sur

MANILA – A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Davao del Sur on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake's epicenter was recorded around 2:21 p.m. some 7 kilometers northwest of the municipality of Magsaysay. It had a depth of 20 km. 

Phivolcs recorded the following reported intensities: 
 
Intensity V - Koronadal City
Intensity IV - Bansalan, Matanao, Hagonoy and Padada, Davao Del Sur; Davao City; Digos City; Kidapawan City; Tupi, South Cotabato
Intensity III - Lake Sebu and Tampakan, South Cotabato; Antipas, Kabacan, Matalam, M'lang, Cotabato; Columbio and Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat
Intensity II - Pikit, Cotabato; Isulan, Sultan Kudarat; and Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City.

The following instrumental intensities were also recorded:

Intensity V - Koronadal City, South Cotabato
Intensity IV - Kidapawan City; Davao City
Intensity II - Kiamba, Sarangani; General Santos City

Reported intensity is the traditional way of knowing the intensity based on reports by people who felt the earthquake, while instrumental intensity is measured using intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.
