Comelec logs over 3M new voter registrants

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has approved over 3 million new voter registrants, an official said on Friday.

Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said they have accepted a total of 3,222,137 applications in the past six months.

“Total new registrants from October 21 to April 29 is 3,222,137…” she said in her Twitter account, @rowena_guanzon.

The poll body official added that Election Registration Board (ERB) figures revealed that as of the start of 2021, the number of new registrants is at 2,187,576.

At present, voter registration in the National Capital Region (NCR Plus) which includes Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, voter registration is still suspended until May 14.

In Abra, Quirino and Santiago City, Isabela, voter registration is suspended for the whole month of May while other areas placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) or modified ECQ (MECQ) by their respective local government units (LGUs) for a specific period in the month of May.

Voter registration in the rest of the country under general community quarantine (GCQ) or modified GCQ (MGCQ) is ongoing.

Applications for registration are accepted at all Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs) in cities, municipalities, where voters intend to register from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays.

The voter registration will run until September 30, 2021. (PNA)
