MANILA – The Department of Science and Technology in Region XI (DOST-XI) will launch the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Technologies (ReSET) Center in Davao City on May 28, DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña announced in a taped report aired on Friday.

"The ReSET Center is a public-private research partnership on small-scale renewable energy systems for sustainable rural development. This will serve as a physical hub for technical support, training, and research," he said.

The main goal of having this hub is to further promote science and technology in the field of renewable energy development in Mindanao, according to the DOST chief.

ReSET will be a venue where basic and advanced technical knowledge on design and fabrication, installation, replication, operation, maintenance, repair, and system troubleshooting will be done.

"It will serve as a workshop (area) where grassroots technicians and other people in Mindanao could improve their skills in renewable energy, as it will provide continuous opportunities for greater learning,” shared de la Peña.

As there will be technical knowledge and expertise sharing, the hub will support and help sustain the renewable energy initiatives and plans of the communities in Mindanao.

Through the help of engineers and capacity-building specialists, he said the ReSET Center would effectively and efficiently respond to problems and anticipated needs of the communities.

The hub is located at the newly-refurbished Mindanao Science Centrum, now called Sentro Mindanaw in Mintal, Davao City, de la Peña said. (PNA
