MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reported 9,197 new recovered cases, pushing the total number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) recoveries nationwide to 1,022,224.
According to the DOH, the figure is equivalent to a 92.8-percent recovery rate among those who contracted the infectious disease.
The DOH also tallied 7,174 new confirmed Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 61,294.
Of the active cases, about 93.8 percent are mild, 2.1 percent are asymptomatic, 1.7 percent are severe, 1.07 are moderate, and 1.3 percent are in critical condition.
It also logged 204 new deaths, pushing the death toll to 18,472 or 1.68 percent of total cases.
Data submitted on May 7 likewise showed that 13.9 percent of 46,878 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.
"Some 33 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, 28 were recovered cases and one is death. Moreover, 149 cases that were previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation," the DOH said.
All laboratories were operational on May 7 and all laboratories were able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.
Currently, 62 percent of 1,900 intensive care unit beds, 44 percent of 13,500 isolation beds, 49 percent of 6,000 ward beds, and 42 percent of 2,000 ventilators are utilized by patients with Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 68 percent of 800 intensive care unit beds, 46 percent of 3,800 isolation beds, 51 percent of 2,200 ward beds, and 51 percent of 800 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The public is advised anew to stay at home as much as possible and to observe minimum health standards when going out.
The DOH urged those experiencing Covid-19 symptoms to immediately isolate and contact the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams.
Meanwhile, OCTA Research said in its Sunday report that case reproduction rate in NCR dropped to 0.67 from 0.69.
OCTA anticipates an average of less than 1,900 new cases by May 14, the supposed last day of the modified enhanced community quarantine status in NCR Plus (Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal).
The 2,172 average number of virus infections in NCR from May 2 to 8 is 61 percent lower compared to the peak of the surge from March 29 to April 4, OCTA’s monitoring report stated. (PNA)
