ZAMBOANGA CITY – Some 925 coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients have been placed on home quarantine, brought about by the lack of isolation facilities in this city.

Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, city health officer, said Wednesday the patients under home quarantine are among the 2,039 registered Covid-19 active cases as of May 11.

Miravite said the rest were either admitted at the government-run Zamboanga City Medical Center, private hospitals, and various isolation facilities of the city government.

Miravite said they will immediately transfer some of the patients under home quarantine on a case-to-case basis once there is a vacancy at the isolation facilities.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) has allowed the city government to use the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School (DPLMHS) gymnasium in Barangay Santa Maria as an isolation facility for Covid-19 patients.

Dr. Elmeir Jade Apolinario, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief and Zamboanga Task Force Covid-19 chief implementer, said the city government is set to establish at least 100 cubicles inside the gymnasium to increase the bed capacities of isolation facilities to at least a thousand to cope up with the continued rise in cases.
