ILOILO CITY – Stricter health measures will be observed in this highly urbanized city (HUC) effective 11:59 p.m. of Wednesday to avert possible surge of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.

“The Iloilo City Covid Team resolved to adopt measures necessary for the massive reduction of individuals inside offices and establishments to ensure that overcrowding, mass gathering, and socialization are continuously prohibited in the workplace,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said in his Executive Order 39-A signed Wednesday.

In the order, the mayor said the city has 28 daily average confirmed Covid-19 cases from May 1 to May 11.

While previous policies set by the team were proven effective in lessening the cases, yet the infection “continuously poses threat to the community,” he said.

The additional measures that will be in effect until 11:59 p.m. of May 19, unless extended or lifted, include the strict prohibition of non-essential mass gatherings such as purely recreational or not intended for medical or humanitarian reasons.

The city government has limited attendees to religious gatherings, weddings, and baptisms at 30 percent of the venue or seating capacity.

Further, only immediate family and relatives up to the third degree of consanguinity of the deceased person shall be allowed to attend wakes and funeral services.

For wakes held indoors, not more than 15 persons will only be accommodated while proper ventilation has to be ensured.

“Across all settings, the minimum public health protocols such as wearing of face masks and face shields, frequent handwashing, and physical distancing must be observed at all times, “ the EO added.

The order also prohibits the operation of entertainment venues, amusement industries, and cockfighting except for e-sabong that is licensed and regulated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

The mayor also enjoined private establishments and offices, agencies, and instrumentalities of the government and the city hall to observe 30 percent on-site capacity and encouraging work from home and other flexible work arrangements where applicable.

As of noon of May 12, Iloilo City has recorded 13 new local cases, including one death and two Covid-19 positive Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APORs). (PNA)
