DUMAGUETE CITY – A new election officer has been named here after the post was vacated at the onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic last year.

Lawyer Ian Michael Macaraya of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, officially assumed his new post as Dumaguete election officer (EO) on Monday to replace lawyer Gildu Agoncillo who resigned in early 2020, records at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office showed.

Agoncillo, following his resignation, was replaced by lawyer Rafael Orillana, EO of the municipality of Siquijor in Siquijor province, in an acting capacity.

Other election executives who were given new assignments include lawyer Dominic Ian Marigomen, former EO of Canlaon City who replaced Macaraya; Leeda Theresa Lumogdang, election assistant of Canlaon City who replaced Marigomen in an acting capacity; Orillana, who returned to his previous post in the municipality of Siquijor; and lawyer Jerome Brillantes, who is now back to his official station as the provincial election supervisor (PES) of Siquijor province.

In an interview, Brillantes said there is no reshuffling of positions in preparation for the May 9, 2022 elections.

He said a number of these Comelec officers were affected by the pandemic and thus, had to “work from home” or be assigned a “satellite office” without compromising their respective tasks and functions.

Brillantes said he will be returning to Siquijor on Tuesday even though he had a satellite officer here and was still functioning “remotely” as the PES of that island-province. (PNA)
