BACOLOD CITY – The Provincial Board of Negros Occidental has commended the six Negrenses recently named to the national volleyball team pool.

During its regular session on Tuesday afternoon, the legislative body unanimously passed a resolution congratulating the volleyball and beach volleyball athletes from the province who have been selected to join the Philippine team.

“As fellow Negrenses, we recognize the outstanding performance of these athletes and we are truly proud of them,” the resolution authored by Board Member Ryan Gamboa, president of the Philippine Councilors League-Negros Occidental Chapter, stated.

Those who made it to the national training pool were Alexa Polidario of Bacolod City, Erjane Magdato of Pontevedra, and Jennifer Cosas of Silay for women’s beach volleyball; Alexander Iraya and Jayrack de la Noche, both of Victorias City, junior boys beach volleyball; and Leo Ordiales of Talisay City, volleyball men - Top 25.

The Negrense players were selected after participating in the tryouts conducted by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation, the country’s highest governing body for all forms of volleyball, in Subic Bay Gymnasium, Olongapo City on April 28 to 30, 2021.

Polidario and Cosas were part of the Abanse Negrense Teams, which ruled the 2021 Philippine Super Liga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup held in Subic last Feb. 26 to 28.

Playing for Abanse Negrense A, Polidario and Magdato took home the gold while Abanse Negrense B’s Cosas and Gelimae Villanueva bagged the bronze. (PNA)
