MANILA – No one in the San Juan city government is involved in the alleged selling of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) jab and vaccine slots, Mayor Francis Zamora assured on Monday.

The city has an ongoing probe on the alleged sale of vaccines and priority slots.

"Here in San Juan, none of our city hall employees or city health staff are involved in this," Zamora said in a television interview. "I'm confident with my city hall employees, with our city health office staff, in fact, I've coordinated also with our officer. We have spoken thoroughly about this."

"What we have here in San Juan is a very organized vaccine procedure," he added, noting that all vaccine recipients undergo processes.

After signing up, one should receive a confirmatory text before going to the inoculation site. Gatekeepers are deployed to check on every person who enters.

"We do not allow walk-ins. We have implemented the confirmatory text procedure from day one of our vaccination. That means you need to show confirmatory text messages and if you are claiming to be a senior citizen or person with comorbidity. You will have to provide the substantial requirements," he said.

On Friday, the conversation between a supposed buyer and seller of Covid-19 jabs and vaccine slots in Mandaluyong and San Juan was shared on social media.

Zamora then immediately warned the public against scammers who may try to sell jabs.

He said the scammers are taking advantage of the public health crisis to make a profit.

"It's clear that this is a scam perpetrated by people who are taking advantage of the situation, especially now that, we know that vaccine supply is very scarce and there are a lot of people wanting to get vaccinated so these scammers are taking advantage of the situation to make money," he said.

Zamora reiterated that the vaccine shot in San Juan is free for all residents and non-residents who are working in the city.

The mayor has already coordinated with the Philippine National Police, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and Department of Health.

"I have given them the assurance that no one is involved in this scam within the San Juan City government," he said.

The city government has already vaccinated more than 23,000, or about 26.9 percent of its target population.

The city will open another mega vaccination hub at the Greenhills shopping center once the national government gives the go signal to vaccinate other priority groups under A4 (other front-liners in essential sectors, uniformed personnel, overseas workers) and A4 (indigent) groups. (PNA)
