PNP recovery tally now 21.4K with 99 new survivors

MANILA – Another 99 police officers recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), raising the Philippine National Police's (PNP) recovery tally to 21,399.

In an update on Tuesday, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said this is equivalent to a 93-percent recovery rate out of a total of 23,013 infections since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, another 170 police officers contracted Covid-19, bringing the active cases to 1,550 or around 6.7 percent of the total number of cases.

Another police officer succumbed to the disease, raising the PNP's death toll to 64.

"The 64th PNP fatality is a 44-year-old policeman assigned in Zamboanga. He tested positive on May 7 and was transferred to ICU (intensive care unit) on May 21 due to difficulty in breathing," Eleazar said.
