MANILA – The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has upgraded all 71 signal lights in its 11 stations.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the MRT-3 said the upgrade, which is part of its comprehensive rehabilitation undertaken by contractor Sumitomo-MHI-TESP, helps improve the rail line’s safety through its brighter LED lights.
“Naikabit na ang kabuuang 71 bagong signal lights sa buong linya, na ginagamit upang magbigay-hudyat sa mga train drivers kung pahihintuin o paaandarin na ang mga tren sa mainline (All 71 signal lights have been installed in the entire rail line. Its purpose is to signal train drivers on whether to stop or to proceed at the mainline.),” the MRT-3 said.
In particular, nine signal lights were upgraded at the North Avenue station; four at Quezon Avenue station; five at GMA-Kamuning station; five at Cubao station; six at Santolan station; five at Ortigas station; six at Shaw station; four at Boni Avenue station; five at Guadalupe and Buendia stations; four at Ayala and Magallanes stations; and nine at the Taft Avenue station.
On Monday, two more light rail vehicles (LRV) have completed their general overhaul, bringing the total number of newly-overhauled LRVs at the MRT-3 to 18.
To date, the newly-overhauled LRVs will be used to augment its 21 operational CKD trains and 1 Dalian train. (PNA)
