184 more cops recover from Covid-19

MANILA – Another 184 police officers have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Citing Thursday night's data, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Friday said this raised the police force's total Covid-19 recovery count to 21,766.

Meanwhile, another 200 police officers contracted Covid-19, bringing the active cases to 1,740 out of a total of 23,571 infections since the start of the pandemic.

Another police officer died of the disease, raising the PNP's death toll to 65.

The latest PNP Covid-19 fatality is a 41-year-old policeman assigned in Metro Manila.

The patient tested positive for Covid-19 on May 6 and was immediately admitted to the quarantine facility.

On May 14, he was brought to the hospital due to cough and difficulty of breathing and on May 20, he was placed under the intensive care unit and was intubated. He died on Thursday.

"Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. As front-liners in fighting this unseen enemy, some of our police officers are putting their life on line, saludo po ako sa inyo (I salute all of you)," Eleazar said. (PNA)
