MANILA – Ruling party PDP-Laban National Council vice-chair Alfonso Cusi said the call for a national assembly on May 31 is meant to assess the party’s support for the programs of President Rodrigo Duterte, who is also the Party chairperson.

“The agenda of the PDP-Laban National Council Assembly as clearly stated in our letter to our party mates is to assess where the Party is, in terms of providing support to the programs of our Party-Chairman and President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” Cusi said in a statement Friday.

Aware that their terms of office are ending, Cusi said they would like to examine what they have accomplished and what needs to be done.

“The composition of the PDP-LABAN National Council shows that it is a body where fruitful and effective exchanges can be made. This is particularly important in the light of our collective effort in response to the COVID-19  pandemic,” he added.

He reiterated that the assembly is part and parcel of the democratic process that every major political party should embrace despite the fact that a minority of PDP-Laban party mates are trying to discourage the participation of other members.

“Verily, the National Council Meeting is an important political process that we must encourage as it pertains to one of the basic tenets of PDP Laban- consultative and participatory democracy,” said Cusi, who is also Secretary of the Department of Energy.

He assured that the Party remains united and committed to serve and accomplish the President’s socio-economic agenda. (PNA
