DAVAO CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) confirmed Wednesday that the surveillance testing of the employees working at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Building was already completed and yielded a total of 44 workers who tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In an interview over Davao City Disaster Radio, Dr. Ashley Lopez, acting chief of CHO said the number was taken out from the 1,083 employees who have undergone the three-day surveillance testing (May 28-May 30).

“Although the positivity rate is quite low, this is already considered a big number,” he said.

Lopez also cited that the number of positive cases might triple if not for the conduct of the surveillance swabbing.

“If not tested, in two weeks’ time, this number might double or triple. That is why we thanked the surveillance swabbing team for carrying out the initiative,” he said.

Lopez pointed out that the most affected offices were the Civil Registrar’s Office, City Assessor’s, and the City Treasurer’s Offices.

“The bulk of the cases are mostly from the City Assessors Office,” he confirmed.

He also added that the 44 workers were already isolated and massive disinfection of the entire SP Building would also commence.

Offices that are affected by the SP Building lockdown are the City Treasurer’s Office, City Assessor’s Office, Business Bureau, City Civil Registrar’s Office, Vice Mayor’s Office, and the offices of all city councilors.

The city government also advised the public to put documents that need attention in drop boxes that would be made available in front of the SP Building while the lockdown is in effect.

It also advised the public to proceed to the District Offices for payments of taxes and other transactions with the Treasurer’s Office, Assessor’s Office, and Civil Registrar’s Office. (PNA)
