DAVAO CITY – The seven-day lockdown of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) building from May 31 to June 6 has been extended by the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force to June 13 due to high cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) of workers in the said building.

The decision came after the City Health Office (CHO) confirmed on June 2 that the surveillance testing of the employees working at the said building yielded a total of 44 workers who tested positive for Covid-19.

Dr. Michelle Schlosser, Focal Person of the City Covid-19 Task Force, announced Thursday that after receiving the CHO recommendation, they decided to extend the lockdown.

“We have 44 (positive cases) when we had the mass swabbing at SP. That is a lot for us not to extend the lockdown of the establishment,” she said in a statement.

While the SP building is in lockdown, all services of the offices at SP are being done at their district offices.

CHO acting head, Dr. Ashley Lopez, earlier said the 44 cases were out of the 1,083 employees who have been swabbed during the three-day surveillance testing on May 28 to 30.

“Although the positivity rate is quite low, this is already considered a big number,” he said, adding that the number of positive cases might triple had it not been for the conduct of the surveillance swabbing.

“If not tested, in two weeks’ time, this number might double or triple. That is why we thanked the surveillance swabbing team for carrying out the initiative,” he said.

The most affected offices were the Civil Registrar’s Office, City Assessor’s, and the City Treasurer’s Offices.

“The bulk of the cases are mostly from the City Assessors Office,” he confirmed. (PNA)
