LEGAZPI CITY – At least 65,000 families here will soon receive assistance from the city government after it was reverted to general community quarantine (GCQ) amid the rising coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.
Mayor Noel Rosal, City Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) chairperson, announced on Friday that they decided to distribute food items to help ease the plight of the affected families.
"Bale goods na po ito para magamit nyo kaagad. Distribute na lang po ito ng mga barangay officials ng house to house or sa purok nyo para safe tayo, walang mass gathering (This is already in goods so that the families can immediately use it in their daily needs. Barangay officials will distribute it house-to-house or by zone so that there will be no mass gathering)," he said in a radio interview.
Rosal also reminded the public to take extra efforts to follow health protocols as the coronavirus cases in the city are rising.
"The situation now a day is very dangerous. Discipline is needed for us to overcome this Covid-19...God bless us," the mayor added.
Out of the 70 barangays in this city, 19 were placed under code Red; 19 under code Yellow; 11 under Orange; and 19 under Green. Two barangays have no record of Covid-19 cases.
Code Red indicates high and increasing number of Covid-19 active cases sporadically located in different zones of the barangay.
Orange represents moderate number of cases. The risk of infection is elevated, but testing and containment measures are able to identify most cases from known sources.
Code Yellow indicates minimal Covid-19 active cases. The risk of infection may be starting to increase but testing and containment measures are able to identify most cases from a known source.
Green means there are no Covid-19 active cases, risk of infection is present but measures can be implemented to monitor and control virus spread.
As of June 2, Legazpi City has 305 active cases, 765 recoveries and 30 deaths. The total number of cumulative cases is 1,100.
Gov. Al Francis Bichara, Albay IATF chair, on Monday issued Executive Order No. 14 elevating the status of this capital city and the neighboring town of Daraga to GCQ from the previous modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases in these areas. (PNA)
