2 high-value drug suspects fall in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY – Two drug personalities classified as high-value targets in the Caraga region were arrested in separate operations on Friday.

Operatives from Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Caraga (PDEA-13) arrested Renan B. Alvizo, 35, in a buy-bust operation in Purok 1, Barangay Lumbocan here.

Alvizo yielded a heat-sealed plastic transparent sachet that contained 1 gram of suspected shabu with an estimated value of PHP11,800.

“The suspect is among the top regional priority target drug personality and has been under surveillance by our operatives,” said Col. Excelso Lazaga Jr., BCPO chief, in a statement.

Charges for violations of Sections 5, 11, and 12, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being prepared against the suspect.

Lazaga also recognized the support of communities here in the continuing drive of BCPO against illegal drugs.

“We urge the public to help us eradicate drug-related crimes and violence in the city by cooperation and self-discipline,” Lazaga said.

In Surigao del Sur, personnel of the Tago Municipal Police Station and PDEA-13 also arrested Jay-R B. Correos, 27, a resident of Barangay Purisima.

Correos was arrested in his residence during the service of a search warrant issued by the Cantilan, Surigao del Sur Regional Trial Court Branch 41.

Seized from the suspect were five plastic sachets that contained suspected shabu weighing three grams with a value of PHP35,400.

“Correos is a watch-listed pusher under High-Value Individual (HVI) in the Province of Surigao del Sur,” said Brig. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr., the director of Police Regional Office in Caraga (PRO-13) in a statement Friday.

He also lauded the cooperation and participation of the community that helps sustain the campaign against illegal drugs in the Caraga Region.

“There will be no let-up in our anti-drug operations even during this time of the pandemic,” Caramat said. (PNA)
