Mati City receives P3-M agri modernization projects

DAVAO CITY – The Department of Agriculture in Region 11 (DA-11) turned over a check amounting to PHP3 million on Tuesday to Mati City government in Davao Oriental for the modern urban agriculture facility projects in three barangays in the city.

The three barangay recipients are Central, Badas, and Dahican which will receive PHP1 million each under DA-11’s High-Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) Bayanihan 2 project.

In an interview, Merriel Aglibot Bernardo, DA-11 HVCDP coordinator, said the amount is part of the PHP15 million budget for modern urban agriculture facility projects in Davao Region’s component cities under the HVCDP Bayanihan 2 grant.

“The amount is intended for the establishment of the greenhouse with hydroponics of the chosen cities,” she said.

Of the PHP15 million, Mati City gets PHP3 million; Davao City, PHP3 million; Tagum City, PHP3 million; Digos City, PHP3 million; Panabo City, PHP2 million; and Island Garden City of Samal, PHP1 million.

“We already turned over PHP3 million check to Tagum City yesterday (June 7) and next week we will release the budget for Panabo City,” Bernardo said.

Earlier, DA-11 also released PHP4.5 million to Mati City for the purchase of four hauling trucks.

The hauling trucks, with a 10 tons capacity will help vegetable farmers transport their produce to the Farmer's Market Bagsakan Center also known as Lapagan. (PNA
