GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Health authorities have prioritized at least eight barangays here with high cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the continuing vaccine rollout.
Dr. April Mae Maquilang, the national immunization program coordinator of the City Health Office, said Thursday the priority barangays were identified based on their weekly monitoring of confirmed infections in the city.
She said these are Barangays Lagao, Bula, Conel, San Isidro, Apopong, Labangal, Calumpang, and Fatima.
These areas recorded the most number of active Covid-19 infections in the city, which reached a total of 668 as of 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The confirmed cases in the city since last year have already reached 4,386, the second-highest in Region 12 (Soccsksargen), and with 137 related deaths and 3,581 recoveries.
Maquilang said the vaccination still covers eligible individuals in the city under priority groups A1 or front-line health care workers, A2 or senior citizens, and A3 or persons with comorbidities.
She said the registration is ongoing for those under the A4 category or frontline workers in essential sectors, including uniformed personnel.
“We are still waiting for the advisory (from the regional vaccine operation center) regarding the delivery of the vaccines for priority A4,” she said in a report.
The city government received before noon Wednesday an additional 2,750 vials or doses of Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccine, which were intended for the remaining target individuals under A1, A2, and A3.
As of June 8, a CHO report said a total of 27,610 doses of CoronaVac and AstraZeneca vaccines were already administered to eligible residents.
Some 19,117 individuals have received their first dose while 8,493 have already completed the required two doses.
Already vaccinated were 14,748 health workers, 8,953 senior citizens, and 3,909 persons with comorbidities. (PNA)
