Social worker, 5 others yield P208K shabu in Zambo ops

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police officers have arrested six people, including a social worker, and seized some PHP208,520 worth of illegal drugs and explosives in separate anti-drug operations here and in nearby Zamboanga Sibugay province, an official announced Friday.

Brig. Gen. Rolando Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, identified the arrested social worker as Michel Acuña, 37, of the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Ylagan said Acuña was arrested by joint police and marine troops in an anti-drug operation around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Barangay San Roque, here.

Seized from Acuña were some PHP34,000 worth of suspected shabu, PHP500 marked money, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone.

The other suspects were identified as Majan Muammil, 42; Arnold Garcia, 36; Ariel Alviar, 42; Rommel Guzman, 48; and, Abdelhaber Asad, 37

Muammil, an alleged big-time drug suspect, was arrested in a buy-bust operation around 4:20 p.m. Thursday in Barangay Zone IV, this city.

Confiscated from the possession of Muammil were some 25 grams of suspected shabu worth PHP170,000, a pouch, 34 pieces of PHP1,000 bills boodle money topped with one genuine PHP1,000 bill.

He said that Garcia was arrested in possession of some PHP1,020 worth of suspected shabu and PHP500 marked money in a buy-bust operation around 11 a.m. Thursday in Sitio Tacupong, Barangay Kawayan in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay.

He said that Alviar and Guzman yielded some PHP2,000 worth of suspected shabu, two fragmentation grenades, PHP200 marked money when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 5:10 p.m. Thursday in Zone 3, Barangay Bunguiao, this city.

Seized from Asad, a fish trader, were some PHP1,500 worth of suspected shabu and PHP200 marked money when arrested in an anti-drug operation around 8:15 p.m. Thursday in Barangay Kasanyangan, here.

He said the suspects were detained while charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them. (PNA)
