ILOILO CITY – A total of 325,108 persons in Western Visayas have received their first dose of a coronavirus shot, 98,216 of them are now fully protected with the required two doses, the Department of Health reported Monday.

In a virtual presser Monday, Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te of the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development said the region has received 191,220 doses of China-made Sinovac vaccines and 127,200 of AstraZeneca. For the second dose, 89,475 (Sinovac) and 8,741 (AstraZeneca) have been received.

Of the vaccines provided, 192,659 have availed of the Sinovac and 132,449 for AstraZeneca.

Te said 78. 63 percent or equivalent to 101,793 of the 129,459 under the A1 category (medical front-liners) received their first dose and 68,343 or 52.79 percent for the second dose.

She encouraged the public to avail of the free Covid-19 vaccine because getting both doses would prevent one from ending up in hospitals due to severe infection.

“All Covid vaccines available now as what we had said are very safe and effective to prevent the severe Covid-19 that would result in hospitalization and even deaths,” she said. (PNA)
