CEBU CITY – A construction firm, supermarket, barbershop, and a hotel in Cebu are the first recipients of safety seal certification in separate ceremonies on Wednesday.

The safety seals were awarded to the Cebu Link Joint Venture, The Marketplace, Robinsons Galleria, Bruno’s Barbers at SM City Cebu, and the Bai Hotel in Mandaue City.

Regional directors of the five government agencies composing the safety seal certifying team attended the separate awarding ceremony.

“We are awarding these (safety) seals to business establishments for the safe reopening of the economy and to reestablish consumer confidence,” Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Central Visayas regional director Ma. Elena Arbon said in a statement.

The DTI issues the safety seal for supermarkets, groceries, convenience stores, membership shopping clubs, construction supply/hardware stores, logistics service providers, barbershops and salons, and service and repair shops.

Arbon said her office has received a total of 74 applications for certification.

Of the number, 62 are from Cebu, seven from Bohol, and five from Negros Oriental.

She said 20 applications in Cebu have already been approved and set for awarding.

Robinsons Retail Holdings operations manager Zenaida Yu has expressed her gratitude on receiving the certification, saying that as a "major retailer promoting health and wellness, we will continue to support and work with DTI on their programs intended for consumer protection."

Other branches of The MarketPlace, Robinsons Supermarkets, Robinsons Easymart and Shopwise were also cited during the ceremony as they received their DTI Gold ‘Bagwis’ Award in the same month.

Another safety seal from DTI-7 was given Wednesday to Bruno’s Barbers at SM Seaside, certifying its compliance to the minimum health protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

The Department of Labor and Employment awarded its first safety seal to Cebu Link Joint Venture, after complying with the health protocols at its Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) project site.

Another accredited establishment, Bai Hotel, has been the first hospitality establishment that received the safety seal.

The DTI statement said establishments with safety seals are expected to strictly implement proper wearing of face shields and face masks, good ventilation, disinfection, and using the contact tracing system to maintain the good housekeeping badge.

The lead government agencies encouraged consumers to patronize establishments with safety seals.

The DTI-7 is set to conduct a webinar for safety seal orientation for interested applicants on Friday via its Facebook page DTI Region 7 Central Visayas. (PNA)
