MANILA – Over 50 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Ilocos Norte are expected to benefit from the newly-launched oneStore.ph hub in the area, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said.

In a taped report aired on Friday, he said over 100 products of Ilocos Norte are also expected to be part of this online marketing platform that could help uplift the economic status of the MSMEs in the province.

"The vision is to help the MSMEs to boost their sales and products by reaching a greater number of consumers. Most of the displays are DOST-assisted products," he said.

These products include agricultural items, processed local food products such as ground coffee, chichacorn, bagnet, banana chips, camote chips, dried noodles. There are also shells, and bamboo crafts, woodworks and artisan furniture, heritage fabrics, and other traditional and souvenir items.

"They (MSMEs) are expecting at least 20 percent increase in sales (with the help of oneSTore.ph)," he said.

De la Peña attended the launching of the oneStore.ph hub on Thursday (June 24) in Paoay. The launch was made possible through the help of the provincial government of Ilocos Norte, as well as the Provincial Science and Technology Center.

He told the Philippine News Agency that all the products from Ilocos Norte that can be seen online are also available in the physical store/hub in Paoay.

"Some LGUs (local government units) and private partners also want a hub. They spend on it. It helps," he said.

Meanwhile, according to the DOST, de la Peña met with Governor Matthew Manotoc to discuss other possible projects in the province.

The Secretary has turned over five units of RxBox to the local government during the oneSTore.ph hub launch.

An RxBox is a biomedical device capable of capturing medical signals through built-in medical sensors, storing data in an electronic medical record, and transmitting health information via the internet to a clinical specialist in a hospital for expert advice. (PNA
