MANILA – All areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) posted a negative growth rate in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the past two weeks, with only three cities classified as “high risk” in terms of average daily attack rate (ADAR), a health official said Thursday.

“The average daily reported cases for June 24 to 30 is 694, slightly higher than June 17 to 23 at 686 that’s why we often describe the NCR as fragile. Slight rises can be managed but we don’t want that slight rise to be a fast transmission or increase in cases,” DOH Epidemiology Bureau OIC-Director Alethea de Guzman said during an online media forum.

De Guzman noted that NCR cities have shown a significant decrease of more than 10 percent in their reported cases for the past two weeks. Only Pateros and Marikina logged a 6 to 10 percent decline in cases.

In terms of ADAR, the three cities considered high risk are Pateros with 9.70; Makati, 8.30; and San Juan, 8.25.

As of Tuesday, Pateros has a high healthcare utilization rate (HCUR) at 75 percent while Las Piñas has high intensive care unit utilization rate (ICUR) at 70 percent.

“In the Plus areas, Laguna flattened [case trend] and then another increase in cases and Cavite has an erratic trend, decline then increase and then plateauing now. Bulacan [cases] continue to decline but we’re observing Rizal because after a continuous declining trend there’s a slight increase in cases in the past week,” de Guzman said.

While Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal showed improvement, Laguna exhibited an increase in the two-week growth rate of cases at 6 percent for the period of June 13 to 26 compared to 1 percent for the period of May 30 to June 12.

Laguna’s ADAR has gone up to 8.24 for the week of June 13 to 26 from 7.74 for the week of May 30 to June 12.

“All of the HCUR in Plus areas are already in the safe zone, the moderate risk remains in Laguna and Cavite in terms of the ICUR,” (PNA)
