MANILA – The 500 police officers of Taguig are fully vaccinated, among the 246,709 already inoculated in the city as of Thursday.

Taguig City Police chief, Col. Celso Rodriguez, said their officers must also be protected as they help the city fight the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), including maintaining order in vaccination centers.

"As we ensure the safety of everyone, we are at peace that we and our families are also protected from the Covid-19 virus," Rodriguez said in an interview.

The Taguig City Police Office also received 30 motorcycles from the city government to boost its security efforts.

"By giving protection to its front-liners, the local government assures the safety of every Taguigueño as it upholds peace and order in the city," a statement sent to the media via Viber read.

Taguig's daily vaccination rate is between 8,000 and 10,000 doses. It expects to vaccinate more than half of its estimated 805,000 citizens by October.

On Wednesday, the city received 6,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine.

Farmers and fisherfolk were among the first-dose recipients on Thursday.

“We’re doing the best that we can to help all our farmers and fisherfolk. We’ll extend all the support we can give to them to sustain their livelihood. Even though Taguig is a highly urbanized city, the agricultural sector is one of our priorities,” Mayor Lino Cayetano said in a statement, referring to the 420 agri-fishery workers inoculated. (PNA)
