MANILA – Despite corruption allegations against some government agencies, Senator Manny Pacquiao can still expect his colleague, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, to cheer for him when he fights in Las Vegas next month.

In a statement on Thursday, Go said he and President Rodrigo Duterte want Pacquiao to inflict a first loss on unified welterweight world champion Errol Spence Jr. in Las Vegas on August 22 (August 21, US time).

"Actually, nag-kausap kami ni Pangulong Duterte tungkol dyan. Bilang Pilipino, suportado namin si Senator Manny sa kanyang laban (President Duterte and I, as with all Filipinos, support Senator Manny in his upcoming fight)," Go said.

"Personally, gusto ko manalo si Senator Manny sa laban. Pilipino tayo. Isa pong karangalan na manalo para sa bayan, sa ating bandila. Kami po ni Pangulong Duterte, suportado namin si Senator Manny sa kanyang laban sa susunod na buwan (Personally, I want Senator Manny to win. It will be an honor for flag and country. President Duterte and I support him)," he reiterated.

Go is likewise hoping that Duterte and Pacquiao would soon resolve their rift as everyone in government wants to get rid of corruption.

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra earlier said if Pacquiao has sufficient evidence against the government offices he accused of widespread corruption, he has other options aside from pursuing an inquiry.

Guevarra said Pacquiao can file graft charges directly with the Office of the Ombudsman or the DOJ’s Task Force Against Corruption. (PNA)
