BUTUAN CITY – The municipal government of Prosperidad in Agusan del Sur has released some PHP316,000 worth of financial assistance to hog raisers who were affected by the African swine fever (ASF).

In a statement Thursday, the local government unit (LGU) said the distribution of financial assistance on Wednesday was led by Mayor Frederick Mark Plaza Mellana, together with the other top officials of the town.

Some 68 affected hog raisers from Barangays Patin-ay and Salvacion directly benefited from the aid.

Aside from the financial assistance, each of the affected hog raisers also received one sack of rice from the LGU.

Mellana assured the affected hog raisers of the continued support of the local government and the efforts being done to contain the spread of the disease in the area.

Among those who received assistance was Julio Dumape, a hog raiser from Barangay Patin-ay who lost 24 heads of hogs during the depopulation activity conducted by the LGU.

“I am thankful for the support of the government through the LGU of Prosperidad. The assistance will help us survive amidst the losses we incurred caused by the ASF,” Dumape said as quoted in the statement.

The town is also working with the concerned agencies of the government to address the effects of the ASF in the area. (PNA)
