LAOAG CITY – This city will be under the stricter modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting June 10 until the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is contained, Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc announced on Thursday evening.
With this, the public trooped to grocery stores early Friday morning to ensure they have enough food supply while the city is placed under MECQ.
According to Executive Order No. 132-21 issued by Manotoc, the movement of people within the city shall only be limited to work and accessing essential goods and services, with only one member of a household who shall be allowed to go out.
Law enforcers are likewise directed to strictly monitor the compliance of residents to existing health protocols such as wearing of face mask, curfew hours and liquor ban with a penalty ranging from PHP1,000 to PHP5,000 or its equivalent community service ranging from 24 hours to 120 hours for first, second and third offenses.
Starting Saturday, border checkpoints manned by members of the Philippine National Police will again be placed in the city’s entry and exit points to ensure unnecessary entry of people in Laoag. All passing through vehicles shall take the alternate by-pass road.
Barangay checkpoints and pass slips will also be issued to regulate movement of people within the city.
As of July 8, Laoag City has the most number of active cases at 281 out of Ilocos Norte’s 4,295 cases with 3,381 recoveries and 79 deaths. (PNA)
