DUMAGUETE CITY – The province of Negros Oriental recorded 270 new recoveries from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) even as it continues to struggle with a surge in infection.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, Covid-19 ground commander of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), in a virtual presser late Monday afternoon said the swab test results from various Department of Health (DOH)-accredited laboratories from July 9-11.

Estacion also said there were 159 new confirmed cases that pushed the caseload of Negros Oriental to 9,794 since last year.

Out of the number, there were 8,235 recoveries, 1,385 active cases, and 174 mortalities.

This provincial capital still has the highest number of active cases at 214, followed by Tanjay, 170; Bacong, 162; and Siaton, 117. The rest of the 19 towns and cities have less than 100 each.

Meanwhile, Estacion said the Covid-19 isolation bed occupancy in hospitals has recently dropped compared to the previous weeks when as much as 100-percent capacity was reported by some facilities.

She said Silliman University Medical Center now has a 76-percent capacity; Ace Dumaguete Doctors Hospital, 73 percent; Negros Polymedic Hospital, 63 percent; Holy Child Hospital, 48 percent; Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital, 41 percent; Bayawan District Hospital, 26 percent; Guihulngan Hospital, 20 percent; and Siaton District Hospital, 16 percent.
