NAGA CITY – The local government unit (LGU) here, public and private hospitals were able to vaccinate at least 13,336 residents against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as of July 14, including those living in neighboring towns who regularly visit the city for work and other businesses.

Dr. Vito Borja, city health officer, in an interview on Thursday, said the inoculated individuals belong to A1 (medical and health front-liners), A2 (senior citizens), and A3 (adults with comorbidities) priority categories of the Department of Health (DOH).

He said 10,164 of the number were vaccinated at the Naga City Mega Vaccination Center (Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum) while 1,034 got their jabs in private hospitals and 2,138 at the Bicol Medical Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Infirmary, and the Naga City Hospital 1, all public hospitals.

Wishing to draw more vaccinees for the city’s inoculation drive, Borja has called on the Nagueños to continue to register through www.covidvax.naga.gov.ph or by visiting their respective barangay halls and look for the online registration center.

“The LGU needs to allocate funds for vaccine procurement since the national government can only supply the LGU with a limited number of vaccines. Naga’s population is 209,170 and the city government wanted to vaccinate at least 70 percent (150,000 residents) of it to be able to establish herd immunity,” he said.

Meanwhile, Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion has already instructed City Administrator Francisco Mendoza to procure vaccines by utilizing the remaining money in the Local Development Fund.

However, Mendoza did not reveal the amount the city will spend on vaccine procurement since it will be determined during the City Development Council meeting on July 19, 2021. (PNA)
