Magnitude 5.4 quake jolts Davao Oriental

MANILA – A magnitude 5.4 earthquake jolted Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental on Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The Philvocs said the center of the tectonic earthquake was located 37 kilometers (km) east of Governor Generoso town with a depth of focus of 42 km.

It said Intensity 5, rated as “strong” shaking, was felt in Governor Generoso while Intensity 4 (moderately strong) in Mati City, Davao Oriental; and Intensity 3 (weak) in Tampakan and Tupi, South Cotabato at 8:59 a.m.

Meanwhile, Intensity 2 was slightly felt in Davao City, General Santos City, Kidapawan City, Kiamba in South Cotabato, and Sarangani; while Intensity 1 (scarcely perceptible) shaking was also observed in Arakan, Cotabato.

The Phivolcs said Intensity 5 is generally felt by most people indoors and outdoors. (PNA)
