MANILA – Rains with gusty winds will be experienced over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands as Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over these areas, the weather bureau said Thursday.

Typhoon Fabian has maintained its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

It was last tracked 530 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, moving west southwest at 10 kph.

Strong breeze to near gale conditions will be experienced over Batanes and Babuyan Islands throughout the passage of the typhoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Mimaropa, Benguet, Abra, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, and Batangas will continue to experience monsoon rains.

"Fabian" is also enhancing the southwest monsoon, according to PAGASA.

The southwest monsoon will cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Western Visayas and the rest of Luzon.

The rest of the country will experience rain showers or thunderstorms.

Rough to very rough seas will be experienced over the northern, western, and eastern seaboards of Luzon. PAGASA said sea travel is risky for small seacrafts, and mariners without the proper experience are advised to immediately seek safe harbor.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas are also forecast over the Visayas.

Over Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA)
