MANILA – The unwavering support of President Rodrigo Duterte for local government units (LGUs) enabled them to achieve their goals and for the last 16 months, face the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic head-on, Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said.

Rubiano said Duterte's tough governance also inspired police forces in maintaining peace and order, fight illegal drugs, criminality, corruption, and insurgency.

"He ensured closer and truly productive coordination between Pasay LGU and national government agencies," she told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday.

In Duterte's final year in office, Rubiano hoped the President would further enhance the Philippines' relations with other countries, particularly in the trade industry.

As Duterte is set to deliver his final State of the Nation Address on July 26, Rubiano said she expects to hear more of the administration’s economic plans and comprehensive response strategies against the pandemic.

“The people should also hear about the President's detailed plan and pronouncement for the peaceful and orderly conduct of May 2022 elections as well as transfer of power to the would-be winners in the elections,” she said. (PNA)
