MANILA – Four persons who received their coronavirus shots were either asymptomatic or has mild symptoms when they contracted the highly transmissible Delta variant, showing that vaccination works even against new variants, a health official said Monday.

During an online media briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said of the total 119 Delta cases detected, four were fully protected with the required two doses of Covid-19 jabs while five have received one dose.

The three fully vaccinated ones were mild cases while the other one was asymptomatic.

"Sa tatlong kaso na namatay, two are unvaccinated. 'Yung isa (Of the three deaths, two are unvaccinated. The other one) we are still verifying because this is a returning overseas Filipino," she added.

Meanwhile, 24 cases have yet to get vaccinated while the vaccination status of the 86 cases is being verified.

"Pinapakita po ng datos na kapag tayo ay bakunado, mas may laban tayo sa mga variants na ito. Nakikita natin na (These data show that we're more protected against the variants when we're vaccinated. This shows that) vaccines work," Vergeire said.
